When he arrived weighing only 27 pounds, he was dangerously thin — little more than skin and bones, struggling just to stay upright,” the PSPCA shared in a social media update. “Even our medical team was stunned that he was still able to walk.”
Rescuers knew the dog, later named Jeremiah, had been found wandering the streets, but much of his past remained a mystery. What became clear almost immediately, however, was that beneath his fragile body was a gentle soul overflowing with affection.
“Despite being in critical condition, he greeted everyone with excitement and warmth,” a PSPCA spokesperson told The Dodo. “His spirit never seemed broken.”
Veterinary staff placed Jeremiah on a carefully monitored refeeding program, increasing his meals slowly to protect his weakened body. Throughout his recovery, the pup’s love for food became a surprising advantage, helping him learn commands and build confidence as his strength returned.
Week by week, Jeremiah gained weight and energy. Soon, he weighed nearly twice as much as when he was rescued. With renewed strength, he discovered the simple joys of running, playing, and exploring — experiences he had likely missed for a long time.

Once healthy enough, Jeremiah was ready for the next chapter: finding a forever family. That moment came quickly when a couple who had recently lost their beloved dog met him and felt an instant connection.
“They knew right away he was meant to be part of their family,” the representative said. “They were committed to supporting him every step of the way.”
Now renamed Tucker, the once-starving pup is thriving in his new home, surrounded by love and comfort.
“He fits into our lives so naturally, like he’s always belonged here,” Tucker’s parent shared. “He’s brought back a happiness I didn’t even realize was missing.”
