Incredible $72,000 Win: Wheel of Fortune Contestant Solves This Extremely Tough Puzzle Today

One remarkable Wheel of Fortune contestant is heading back for another shot at glory—and he already has nearly $73,000 in winnings to prove he’s one of the season’s biggest success stories.

Ray Cason of Butler, Florida, delivered an impressive performance during the February 11 episode, dominating much of the game before capping off the night with a thrilling Bonus Round victory. By the end of the show, he had accumulated an incredible $72,950, guaranteeing himself a return appearance in the show’s special NASCAR Tournament finale.

Away from the game show stage, Cason is a devoted New York Yankees fan with an unusual hobby. He enjoys building miniature baseball stadiums in his backyard, where he hosts neighborhood wiffle ball tournaments. He also recently celebrated 30 years of marriage with his wife, Katie, and together they have five children and three grandchildren.

The episode was part of Wheel of Fortune’s NASCAR Tournament Week, where the three highest-winning contestants of the week earned spots in Friday’s championship episode for a chance to compete for even more cash and a VIP trip to the Daytona 500.

Cason wasted no time making his presence known. He solved the opening Toss-Up puzzle to grab an early lead, while fellow contestant Kimberly Cannon of South Holland, Illinois, claimed the second Toss-Up. The biggest moment of the early game came during the “Movie Title” category when Cason landed on the coveted One Million Dollar wedge. He successfully solved “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” earning $4,050 while keeping the million-dollar wedge in play.

His momentum continued during the Crossword category, where he correctly solved “Swift, Slow, Fast, Sluggish,” adding another $7,000 to his growing total. Later, he captured the Prize Puzzle, “Splurging on Room Service,” winning a luxury vacation to Belize and pushing his total to $29,750.

Although Katie Britton of York, South Carolina, made an impressive comeback by sweeping all three Triple Toss-Up puzzles for $10,000, Cason responded by solving the final puzzle, “Hitting the Homestretch,” securing another $3,200 and finishing the main game with $32,950.

Britton left with $10,000, while Cannon finished with $2,000, but all eyes turned to Cason as he advanced to the Bonus Round with the Million Dollar wedge still in his possession.

Host Ryan Seacrest reminded viewers that Cason had already earned a place in Friday’s NASCAR Tournament finale, but there was still the possibility of an even bigger payday if the million-dollar envelope happened to be waiting.

For the Bonus Round, Cason selected the “Phrase” category. After the standard letters R, S, T, L, N, and E appeared, he added D, B, G, and I, leaving the puzzle reading:

B E _ _ N D _ _ R D S

After thinking through a few possibilities, Cason confidently answered “Beyond Words,” solving the puzzle before time expired.

While the Million Dollar prize wasn’t inside the envelope, Cason still uncovered a $40,000 Bonus Round prize. That boosted his total winnings to an impressive $72,950, making him one of the tournament’s biggest winners and sending him into the Friday finale with plenty of momentum.

With a guaranteed return to compete for even more prizes, a luxury Belize vacation, and nearly $73,000 already secured, Cason’s unforgettable night proved that smart puzzle solving—and a little luck—can turn an ordinary contestant into one of the week’s biggest success stories.
