Savannah Combs, a 23-year-old from Middleburg, Florida, was overjoyed when she discovered she was expecting twins. The news became even more extraordinary when doctors revealed that both babies had Down syndrome. Although Savannah knew the diagnosis might bring judgment from others, she and her husband, Justin Ackerman, saw their children’s uniqueness not as a burden—but as a blessing.
Savannah began documenting her pregnancy journey on TikTok, where she quickly built a supportive following. She openly shared both the challenges and the beautiful moments along the way. Even though some people advised her to terminate the pregnancy, Savannah never considered it. Instead, she chose to cherish every moment with her unborn daughters.
At 29 weeks pregnant, Savannah gave birth to Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman on May 12, 2021. Because they arrived two months early, the twins spent several weeks in the NICU before they were strong enough to go home.
Savannah later explained that the girls are “mono di” twins, meaning they each had their own amniotic sac but shared a placenta—making them identical. Identical twins with Down syndrome are extremely rare, occurring in roughly one out of every two million births.
For Savannah, however, her daughters are simply her daughters. She often reminds people that Kennadi and Mckenli have the same emotions, the same beating hearts, and the same potential to learn as any other children. While their development may take more time, she believes they will reach every milestone in their own way.
Through TikTok, Savannah regularly shares updates about their progress—showing the world that with love, patience, and determination, her girls can achieve amazing things.
Unfortunately, not all reactions online have been kind. Some critics have even suggested that Savannah should put the twins up for adoption. She responded with dignity and strength, writing on Facebook: “Good thing they weren’t born to you. God knew what He was doing by giving these babies to parents who would love them unconditionally.”
Savannah’s journey with Kennadi and Mckenli has become an inspiring example of unconditional love and acceptance. Her story reminds people of the beauty in every child and the importance of embracing differences. Through their smiles, milestones, and joyful moments, this family continues to inspire thousands around the world.
